Stop/Start and brake noise

Hi all,

just picked up a used DS3 Dsport Plus on Saturday and on the drive into work this morning noticed the brakes are making a bit of noise. I am currently putting it down to the car being sat in the dealers for atleast a month but just wanting to ask is any amount of noise normal from the DS3.

Secondly the stop/start feature is also not functioning, the little light flashes but never goes on fully. Again I reckon its due to it being sat still and the battery not being fully charged due to that. Does this sound about right, if so any idea how to get that thing working quicker.

Brake noise is usual after it's been sat for a few days (or less in this crappy weather we've been having). In a safe area, brake firmly from 30-0 and it should clear it.

Not sure about the stop/start as I don't have that feature but I do remember Bigfeet saying that the system checks something like 50+ things before deciding to use it, any one not to its liking then it won't activate. Primary one being charge in the battery I imagine, try giving it a decent run out and see if that helps?

Have you brought the car on a long-ish journey? It has to be running a certain length of time before the stop start will activate and even then if it hasn't been running too long it'll stop and then start itself back up again in a few seconds.

The journey to work is about 1 hours, 1 hour 15, but its actually only 12.5 miles so I guess it needs to be a longer run than this even? Will the charge build up over a number of days, maybe by Wednesday it will come to life.

I shall go to Cosco and do the brakes there, simple.

The stop/start is in use basically throughout the journey, would turning it off help the battery charge quicker or would this not matter.

One of the checks the Eco system does is outside temperature, with the winter weather I doubt if you will see the system engage until it warms up a bit outside. The fact the light is flashing is telling you that the system is running.

In regards to brakes you do normally get some sort of noise if the car has been standing for a while which should scrub off when you get moving. If the noise continues while you are driving it I would suggest that you may need to replace either the pads or the discs.

I've had brake noise on my DS3 for the past few months and from about 20k miles onwards. I pointed it out at the service and the dealer told me the brakes/discs were fine (slightly scored but nothing to warrant a change on yet) so I just put up with the squeaking from time to time

The brake noise seems to be getting quieter now, noticed if i brake from 10mph+ there is no noise, so i think its just normal low speed noise.

The stop/start though still just flashes, the outside temp isn't cold around where i drive, has been around 10 degrees and it just flashes. Not sure when to go from thinking the battery is still charging due to no use to its just not working?

Did you try turning it on and off via the button on the right side near the drivers door ? I've not needed this myself but it appears to have worked above

I did indeed try turning it off then on, still no luck. It has now done about 60 miles since picking it up, surly this is enough to charge the battery. Also noticed that as soon as i get in the car and turn the key(not start engine) the car goes into economy mode(switches radio off etc.)?

I'd have thought so too, my drive to work is just under 12 miles and the stop/start has been working every day this week when stopped at lights etc.

I did drive 100+miles on Sunday afternoon though so maybe that was sufficient to charge the system ? Given that you can't even run the radio it might be worth asking the dealer to check the system. In my experience you never get v long with the radio on and the engine off though.

The dealer was actually a ford garage so i suspect they know nothing. I have contacted Citroen about this issue as the car still has a few months on warranty. Hopefully will have some luck!

I think there is something wrong with your stop start. I gave a DStyle Plus e-HDI and if I turn my heating off (as I know it's one of the things it checks) then my stop start will activate pretty much straight away in cold weather. In the morning I can start the car, go to the top of my street (about 100 yards) turn left and stop at the traffic lights (about 250/300 yards away) and the stop start will work.
My front brakes also squeal a bit when cold / wet. Sometimes I press the brakes lightly while keeping my foot on the accelerator and this sorts it.
