  • THP 155 engine fault and repair costs

Hi, my trusty THP 155 flashed it's engine warning light and went into limp mode on Sunday.
Parked up the car at home and noticed the engine fan was running at full pelt for a good 5 minutes after I stopped the car.
Ever optimistic, I thought it might just be a faulty temp sensor and so did the guy at the dealership when I dropped it off yesterday.
However, I got a call to say that the computer has come back with a large list of errors including the high pressure fuel pump. They are going to replace the ignition coils and spark plugs first and put the latest software on to see if that clears the problem.
I'm a bit gutted as my car is one of the first 155s built, bought it new in December 2011 and has only done 22K. That means that my warranty ran out 8 weeks ago

I'm being charged £270 for the coils, plugs and software update. Thought that is a bit steep, but will let it slide as the problem might be more serious and I'd want some goodwill from Citroen.

Has anyone had a HPFP replaced outside of warranty? How much would that cost?

    Any advise would be appreciated.
    J

Mine went under warranty but the job sheet I have for replacing the HPFP shows they replaced the pump, a fuel pipe and o-ring for £361.70.

I think that includes labour because the parts are listed as £227.14, £12.71 and £1.32 respectively.

I had the problem 2 months before the standard warranty was up (March 2011). I bought the 1 year extension after that for £250 which has already covered £271 of repairs. Well worth it.

£360 isn't as bad as I had thought it would be for the HPFP.

I've just had the call to say swapping out the coils and plugs and doing the software update has cleared the errors.
Although I've got a sneaky suspicion that this won't be the end of it.

I'm guessing it's too late to get the warranty extended? Didn't realise it was that cheap.

It's worth asking them if you can get it. Warranty Direct quoted me £500 for the exact same cover so it's definitely good value.

Get the HPFP from BMW MINI, it's about £250 and identicle, the BMW MINI engine to reference is the N14 Cooper S or JCW makes no difference which.

Just been told my HPFP seems to have gone on my 155, and that's after they replaced the ECU. Also had plugs, coilpacks, injectors and all sorts of other things checkedand dealt with.

All this at 23k miles, after the inlet valves were cleaned at 19k miles too

Think my DS3 is trying to tell me something?

Cant fault the Customer service though. They've been good so far :-)

Not good, I thought the 155 was supposed to be better!

Have you got it back now?

I'm spotting a recurring theme with these THP's...

                Good luck Chris.

Panic over.AA been and problem diagnostics showing fuel/air mixture lean, random misfire and ignition failure cylinder 2 misfire. Anyway under the hood cylinder 2 spark plug holder was loose. Engine management light out now so just going to give it a wee test drive to make sure.

Picking my THP up tomorrow after a 3 week fix, including replacing injectors, replacing ECU and also replacing the HPFP. Oh- and a 2nd year major service inc plugs, brake fluid, air filter, oil/oilfilter change and general checks. Whats the betting it wont start LOL (Sure it will... but will it make a clatter on start up like it used to)
