  • Passenger electric window

    Hello! New to the forum.

I've recently bought a 61 Dsport Plus and have been getting to grips with it over the week. I've noticed that my passenger side window seems to open/close slower than the drivers side and also doesn't sound as smooth. Is that a sign the regulator is on its way out? I ran my bluetooth code reader and the car isn't showing any logged errors. I'm a bit reluctant to crack open the door when I've just got it!

Thanks for the forum, lots of useful info that helped me buy the vehicle. Running neat washer fluid to avoid killing the fuse and I've bought a handful of spares just in case

Hi welcome to the club, what's this about running neat screen wash fluid? Never heard about that!

      Welcome

Perfectly normal. Think it relates to the auto close not needed on that side - unless you are in a LHD DS3

The DS3 has a 3 sec jet time on the windscreen washers so if the fluid is frozen, no matter how short you run the jets, potentially the fuse could blow! Running neat washer fluid stops the any freezing in the lines. Been successful so far in the ever warm Wales.. It'll get a real test once I head back up NE England (Land of the brave).

Thanks for easing my mind. Didn't make that link! Nahhh although you'd think people were driving LHD with the moves you see on the dual carriage ways here!

Unless you're a complete klutz then it's the same principle as running out of washer fluid... You don't keep trying to wash the screen if nothing comes out surely?
In over 10 years of driving all makes and models never have a needed to replace washer fuses! I've had a washer bottle freeze and crack but never had to replace a fuse!

Running a slightly more concentrated ratio would be sufficient, but neat is a bit overkill IMO.

Sorry had to smile when I read about the Code reader...

Anyway the best way to tell of the regulator is on the way out is to put your ear next to the door card and have a good listen, if you are hearing rumbling noises then you may want to get the door card off for a closer look which is a simple enough job to do. I would first off try adding some lube to the seals on the door, especially the quarter glass. The rubber here has been known to stick and jam the windows.

You'd be suprised. The mk1 DS3's had a tendancy to blow their fuses when the first bit of cold struck.

I find my passenger side e-window is slower too. But then again, the driver side was a bit too until they replaced the whole lifting mechanism under warranty. They told me that the mechanism is underlubricated from the factory so gets rust easily. The new mechanism was "wetted from grease" to prevent rust. I would replace it on the passenger side too, but may be a bit expensive. Haven't opened the door trim to check it out and maybe lubricate it more.

My first DS3 blew the fuse, it was a v snowy day but as said above the jets run for 3 secs once you blip them so it popped the fuse before I realised the washer jets had frozen.

One wonders why you need to wash the screen when temperatures are so low?

If you need to just use a slightly more concentrated screnwash, we don't exactly live in Russia....
