    UPDATE ON BOTTOM POST

Ok so when I test drove my DS3 Dstlye Plus Cabrio 3 weeks ago I noticed that the key would not flick out as it should. It's the proper colour coded key which matches my infinite blue roof etc. Told the sales lady and she said their workshop would sort it. She also stated that there was a second key anyway. When I went to collect the car but prior to paying i noticed the colour coded key had not been fixed. The second key is of cause a spare manual key. The manager stated that they would pay for the AA to come to my house to fix it which I thought was fair so the deal was struck and 3 days later I drove my new baby home.

Well after chasing up the dealership the AA finally came yesterday. I asked the nice young chap if he could fix it to which he replied " I've not come to fix it ive come to give you a replacement key" Great I thought until he said that the new key will just be a standard Citroen key as below

He said that the colour coded ds3 key is a 'special order' and he was just sent to give me a new standard key.

So should I be insisting on having a new proper DS3 colour coded key? I'm thinking more about when I come to sell the car etc. Cost quoted just now by Citroen is £167.

    Thoughts please.

Yes. In my opinion that isn't fixed or replaced. The dealer should be sorting you a proper key.

I would go and see the dealer and not move until it's sorted

Agree with Beefy, You should be getting a replacement key that is the correct spec for the car. Inform the dealer that while you are happy that they are sorting it out for you the key offered is not acceptable.

They should be giving you the correct key for the car and if that means a "special order" then they should be making a "Special Order"! instead of giving you a key that they had sitting around.

              UPDATE

Motorpoint came back to me today stating they will not be ordering me the colour coded DS3 key as they believe that as they have now given me a replacement standard citroen key resulting in me now having 2 working keys(manual spare key as well) they have fulfilled their obligations.

I have stated that I am not accepting this. I stated that prior to handing over my money and signing the order I pointed out the colour coded DS3 key was not working correctly and I was informed by the sales person that it would be menden prior to collection. On collection day the key hadn't been fixed but the manager told me that they would pay for the AA to come to my hkme and fix the key. 3 weeks after purchase the AA did come out but they were not able to fix colour coded key so gave me a new standard citroen key and changed the codes etc.

Does anybody know where I stand in relation to any legislation regarding my rights etc? Unfortunately I know about criminal law not civil.

              Thanks for any assistance.

On a positive note I got the £200 refund cheque from them in relation to the missing bluetooth

That is how the keys looked at first, later they were imprinted with the ds all over. The coloured disk is actually a separate piece when you buy a new key it does not come with it. If you go this route rather than getting a new colored disk I would suggest going to a car wrapping place and show them what you want and I would bet they will just give you a scrap piece of vinyl film in the right colour.

The issue here is that as far as the law would see things the dealer has supplied a key for the vehicle as required. What you are arguing is that the key is the wrong style of key which is a fair point. This one is going to be hard to tackle.

The way I would tackle it would be to challenge the dealer with the point that if they took the car in with the "wrong" key supplied what would they do.
Anyway I'm still surprised that they just didn't get the key fixed, it's a 5 minute job to remount the spring....

Just have a quick check to see if there's a price difference between the "standard" (I had one of those on my 2008 C2 when the DS3 wasn't even around) key and the proper DS3 one. If it's different in price, I'd argue that you've paid for the DS one so that's what you should have.

They could've supplied you with some crappy generic one that worked but if it's not what you've paid for, it's not something you should accept.

thanks for your comments. let me just clarify a few things.

I did not purchase the vehicle from a Citroen dealer, it was from Motorpoint which is a car supermarket.

The spring in the key is fine but the clip it fits to was broken and fell out when the AA man opened it up hence it could not be fixed.

The sales rep told me they would fix the key prior to me picking it up. They did not fix it or even attempt to fix it but I agreed the sale as the manager stated they would send the AA out to fix it but clearly as it was broken in side it could not be fixed.

the sale was agreed with having the key fixed. the key hadn't been fixed therefore I believe they should be supplying me the correct key replacement as that is the key that was included in the sales and should have come with that car.

Regardless of whether you bought it new or second hand, they haven't supplied what you've paid for. I'd still insist they replace it with the proper one.
