  • Clunk / Rattling noise when accelerating / going over speed bumps!

    Hi, can anyone please help.

I've noticed a loud kind of clunk noise when accelerating hard especially from 1st to 2nd (as if something is loose), and also the noise seems to rattle really loud going over speed bumps, even when going over them at really low speed, any ideas?

At first I thought it was the spare wheel kit which had come loose (as the sound seems to come from behind the drivers side, I could be wrong, it's hard to tell!), but to eliminate this I removed all parts and went for a test drive, and unfortunately the noise was still there.

My car is a 62 plate, and was purchased this christmas, it's only got 13,000 on the clock.

    Back seats not secured maybe?

I will double check the back seats are secured, but I haven't really adjusted them, is it usual for them to come loose?

Something loose under one of the seats? Like a bottle of water / can of coke etc. Had this happen to me before.

It's definitely not a bottle, there's nothing in the car that could rattle.

It sounds like a metal kind of sound, maybe from under the car or wheel area, I could be wrong though, it's hard to tell really!

It doesn't always make a noise when accelerating, only when accelerating hard, but always over speed bumps, and uneven road

Exhaust could be loose. would rattle more over bumps and at certain rev range?

Look at the heat shield for the exhaust too while your down there.

I checked the back seats thanks and one of them was loose, but unfortunately it hasn't solved the noise.

Thanks, I will have a look later.

The noise only happens when accelerating hard (it's a one off noise when accelerating), but if I really feather the accelrator you can't hear the noise!

Exhaust brackets are a known week point on the DS3, well worth a look

Thanks, I will have a proper look later, hopefully can track down the fault/noise.

Just a quick question, I bought the car from a Citroen Used Approved Dealer which came with Citroen Select 12 month Warranty, if it is the exhuast for example, would I be covered for any work that would need to carried out?

If it's the bracket rusted then it should be. A few people have had theirs fixed under the new car warranty, I assume the Citroen Select one should cover the same.

Thanks, if there is a fault, hopefully it's covered by warranty, would be pretty pi**ed off if it's not as only purchased the car 4 months ago and only done 1000 miles.
