  • Engine fault: repair needed and loud fan

    Hi peeps,

    DS3 sport 13 plate

Was wondering if anybody could possibly advise/help...

Was driving home the other day and the car started shuddering, followed by the 'engine fault: repair needed' message on the dash coming up. The car felt like it was going stall for the remainder of my short journey and the fan stayed on for about 10 minutes after switching the engine off (quite noisy).

I started it again today and no error but the fan was v loud and stayed on for about 10 minutes again.

Any help would be much appreciated. I'm taking it to the garage on Friday and hoping my warranty will cover any damage.

Has anyone else experienced this/ heard of such a problem? Or any ideas on what it could be?

    Many thanks,

    Jason

When it happened to me recently they started at the spark plugs, then the injectors, then replaced the ECU, then replaced the High pressure fuel pump, and after that took 3 weeks they'd fixed it :-)

Warranty should cover unless you have altered things

Could also be pistons breaking too, or the inlet valves coked up
Might even be timing chain knackerd too
    Good luck

Could it be a Temp Sensor Fault?

Very common with the petrol 120's.

Mine had it. Would beep with the error message, have an engine burp and stutter, then fan would run constantly.

^ ^ Good shout WTF, but when my temp sensor went there was no juddering. Just the fan going like crazy for ages, and the temperature gauge straight to max.
Was given permission to drive to the dealers, as the engine was stone cold anyways

Not saying it isnt tho, so check the water level too...

Cheers for the replies guys. I've got the same symptoms as both of you. The juddering was happening when the problem initially occurred but I drove it briefly yday and there was no juddering but the fan was loud and constant. Taking it to the garage tomorrow so will let you know.

Lets hope its the temp sensor then- how does the temp gauge read?

Cheers Chris, yep fingers crossed it's something simple like that. Although the temp gauge is low when i switch the engine on...which makes me think that may not be the issue

For anyone that was interested...it turned out to be the inlet valves, here is what was said:

Carried out initial diagnostic check into
                      EML on dash.
Found 11 fault codes stored. Found fault
                      P1385 super knock.
Found TSB B1AW011JQ0 relating to fault
                      code found.

                      Carried out Technical service bulletin.
Cleaned inlet valves, applied fuel additive,
intialised auto adaptives, checked for ECU
                      download, had already been applied.
Road test, EML didn't reoccur. ALL OK.

                      Thanks for the replies/help

Not just the temp sensor then

Best of luck keeping this running, maybe have a chat with your dealer on their thoughts on walnut blasting.
