  • Minor bump

Mrs V came back from work last night and tapped into the tow bar of a car in front. Really low speed contact. They had no damage, but the DS3 has a nasty vertical crack down the black honeycomb grill under the license plate. The thin silver strip also has a crack, but the chevrons are fine. The painted bits of the bumper also seem largely unaffected other than a couple of single marks.

I've seen Fleabay has entire front grilles with the chevrons, license plate holder and honeycomb for £60-£70, but I just wondered if its a job that can be done yourself? Or would it be better to take it somewhere?

If you feel confident it's well worth doing it yourself. Somewhere on here (try a quick search) is a complete diagram of how this area is constructed. Insurance claims are a pain and ultimately cost you dearly.

    Good luck

If your feeling confident it's a straight forward job to replace grill once you have removed the bumper the bumper is held on with 4screws across. The top cross member 2 bolts each side near where it meets the wings and 2 bolts and 2plastic rivets underneath the bumper . Once. You have removed the bumper u just need to unclip the crash bar fixed to the bumper 6 plastic clips then unclip grill That's it sounds. Harder than it actually is PM me if you need more info cheers mark

Nah, it needs a like for like replacement really - it's on a 3 year payment plan

I'm annoyed though that the Ebay item I was looking at was NOT for the whole front grille, but just the shiny black bit the license plate goes on!! for £64.99 !! I'm going to need that, the black base piece with the honeycomb, and the chrome strip that goes around the whole thing (but not the chevrons). They are all separate pieces.

I've not had to buy car parts like this before - anyone have any good supplies for this type of stuff?

I've never had to buy these bits sorry - I did wonder if the Company Aidan worked for might be able to help with a discount on these bits, thing is he's been promoted I think and doesn't manage to get back on here much. My ageing brain can't recall the name of the Co either

Oh wait - this is them, might be worth a call and say you saw their details on the DS3 forum - http://www.partsworld-uk.com/category/Citroen,i.html
