  • THP faulty timing chain diagnosis

Had a DS3 150 THP in today for fault finding. The car has had a history of faults relating to fuel mixture too lean and also too rich.
Observations from the data logs STFT and LTFT's were banana's, values fluctuating from -17 to +25%.
We removed cam cover to check the cam timing and this is what we found
The correct reading should be 0.00 on each camshaft.
    White on red THP
Miltek exhaust with HKS highflow cat, Forge intercooler, hard pipe kit, induction kit, oil catch tank, , VAG BOV, Stage 3 SPT remap 217 BHP

I don't know what that means Jamie but it seems like bad news - what can you do to fix that ?

OK. normally this would be done with a special tool that should slip over the camshafts, but all that tool really does is check that a certain part of the shaft is level. So he has just measured how many degrees out from level it is. 3.7 deg for the exhaust cam and 6.9 for the intake.

Would it be correct in saying you could only get this if it was built that way?

No they should stay at "0" for the life of your car. This is what everyone always talks about when they say the timing chain has stretched and tensioner is weak.
