IMHO I would be looking at a strip of led's under the red plastic at the top of the rear lighting cluster & wire those into the DLR circuit

One possible issue with that idea is that the DRL's are possibly controlled on and off via the CANBUS lighting system, and if that detects additional loads on the circuit to the DRL's it may shut it down and indicate a lamp failure. But without circuit diagrams on how that is controlled it's hard to say.
