Oil low message

The low oil message came up on screen earlier, checked the oil seemed ok, topped it up but warning still appears

Anyone got any ideas why this is

A diagnostic test should tell you if the sensor is faulty.

It may take a short while for it to register that the oil's been topped up.

Leave it overnight and if it's still doing the same in the morning and you're confident there's enough oil in there, pop over to your dealers.

Could be somthing to do with oil pump if there was still enough oil in it.. sure some cars if the engines dont get enough oil going round it throws up low oil sign...

I did have the last week, for me it just seemed to take a couple of day for it to register. once i had left it a day or two the light went off and all was well again.

I stand corrected.. just a friends bmw oil.light came on checked it full.. 2days later engine packed up due to lack of oil and a broken oil pump so mightnhave been worth a mention..

An oil pressure light and a low level light are 2 very different things.

There is something with the oil pumps and sensors. Mine had always a shadow fault code about oil sensor, even after I replaced whole sensor.
Also, my pump was strenghtened during engine rebuild. There is supposedly some kind of weakness in the pump which "triggers" around 60k km.
