  • DS3 wastegate function

    Hello to everyone!
Finally I managed to raise the boost of my car and discovered the problem which was torturing me all these 6 months. It was a spoilt little small o-ring(!!!)on the gfb which wasn't sealing properly the valve on the turbo and as a result we couldn't manage to raise and hold properly the pressure of the turbo :bow:

But now I have a simple and technical question. My car is raising and holding boost up to 1,25-1,3 bars. Is the factory wastegate proper for holding this kind of boost? Is it adjustable and what's the thing that some people say that the THP wastegate is not working in the common way that all wastegates are operating but it's some kind different??

    Thanks in advance

I seem to remember saying something about checking the installation of that valve lol. As far as I am aware It is a normal turbo integrated wastegate. Never heard of anyone saying otherwise. And no it is not manually adjustable, it is controlled by your cars engine management computer, Which can raise the boost level, what your remap is basically doing amongst other things to support that. As to whether the actuator can hold. It is not actually the boost it is holding, although it is controlling the level of boost, but the pressure of the exhaust stream. Can't see it being an issue with any amount of boost you could build on the stock turbo and still be on in it's efficiency range.

hahah yes yes you are right but it was so tiny and I was so desperate that didn't pay attention to this small O-ring :P
      Thanks anyway
But something off topic. Does the ECU set a torque goal and the boost is raised automatically in order to reach the torque set by the remap?

Sure it doesn't work like that but that whole area (the actual remapping and engine computer) is out of my bailiwick. Leave that stuff for experts like Jamie at SPTuning. I just fiddle with stuff and then say, Hey this is what we did now make make our engine use it to the most effect!
