Help, DS3 1.6hdi - Whistling noise from engine bay, stops when clutch pressed??????

Hi All

Any ideas on an annoying whistling noise from my engine bay, I think from the right hand side as you look at the engine. Its a constant whistling nosie, doesnt seem to go up particulary with the revs, but it stops when you press the clutch, and starts again as soon as you release the clutch peddle.

Whistling noise seems the same on tickover as when driving, maybe increases slightly, but maybe not.

Booked in at the garage I bought it from to investigate, only got a 30 day warranty, I think they will come back and say its nothing.

Ive booked it in at citroen main dealer also for a second opinion,,,, Im a bit stuck to what it can be, I was thinking air leak or something, but would that stop when pressing the clutch? probably not.

could be clutch release bearing- how many miles it done
Release bearing can wear primarily if driver rest left foot on clutch pedal a lot

Its done 68k, weve only just bought it.

Would that be a big job then?

It could be, often with clutch related work the garage will recommend replacing the clutch at the same time to save doing it a little further down the track.

TBH I'd get it diagnosed asap, hopefully the garage you bought it from will be good about this and then see what they suggest

Its booked in Friday, it had a 30 day warranty, but couldnt imagine them changing the clutch :-(

Another common whistle is from a lose earth cable, but this sound gets higher as you accelerate and comes from the centre speaker area.

68K is a mileage where the clutch could start giving you problems
They can replace just the bearing, and it would be a cheaper option as they don't have to buy all the other major components (Best to change the complete clutch obvs, but in my THP that's £800)

25 yr ago it just cost me £30 to get a bearing changed on my knackered old Ford Capri :-)
Nowadays.... G knows what it costs

Lets hope its a suppressor or earth cable as WTF suggest

Update - advice was right, deffo the release bearing / clutch, the garage said straight away and booked it in for a new one
under the 30 day warranty, so happy I took it in. Thanks for the advice.
