  • Stop - Start query

Hi guys. I have a ehdi dsport + and I've had it since November last year. A couple of weeks ago for the first time since I've had it the stop start function worked. Didn't realise at the time until it happened again and I realised what was going on. So it hadn't worked at all in the first 8 months of owning the car now it suddenly springer into life. But it only happens sometimes.

Sometimes it works right after turning the car on as I pull up at the junction to get out of the work car park. Other times it works in town at traffic lights just as it should do.

Everytime it's done it I have slowed down. Put the clutch in. Knocked it out of gear and let the clutch off. Then when it gets less the 10mph it works.

Then other times like for the past 8 months the eco light just flashes at me and does nothing at all. Wetherby it's straight away or if I've been traveling down the motorway for 3 hours.

I sometimes have the radio on. Sometimes nothing. Never usually have the windows open. The ac is always on but never set at stupid limits. Usually 20.

I'm just curious as to why when I haven't done anything different in my settings or the way I drive does it decide to start working after 8 months and only on and off.

I had one journey back from work when it done it every time it should've and other times on the same journey it hadn't happened once.

Any tips or advice or information to clear this up as to the way it works?

    Cheers, Joe

IIRC there's like 70 different checks the system makes before stopping the engine, if any one of those isn't within parameters, it won't stop.

I'm sure there's a list somewhere on here.

Your system is working normally, nothing to worry about.

 Biggie  I'm not an expert but I'm surprised it took 8m to start working, especially with the long journeys you described above.

Mine gets one long drive every fortnight and then 25 mile round trip to work each day but it deffo works more than yours

Yeah. For the past month I've been at my fiancée's and it's about a 30 mile round trip to work. And it was only recently it's started to work.

I've been man Chester and back a few month ago and all the drop starting with traffic lights it's never done it once.

I've even read the car manual about it and I think it mentions something about putting the handbrake on and I've never once done that haha. The times its done it the car was still moving, just below 10mph and out of gear. Weird but unfortantly I can't do anything about it other than pay a fortune to get it checked at a garage.

I'm not bothered but it's just strange as it's kinda working after all this time.

I don't coast to activate mine as it will work once stationery, out of gear and foot off the clutch most times

According to the list then. Everything is correct as the clutch isn't pressed. It's in neutral. The brake pedal is pressed and the accelerator isn't pressed. The only thing wrong is that it kicks in while I'm coasting to a stop. Which it shouldn't do. As it should only work after coming to a stop for at least o.5 seconds :/

Is it a possible sensor or something like that? Or will it be a much bigger problem?

As I said your system is working perfectly, the Stop Start setup Citroen uses is very specific about how it engages the stop system. There are a few more elements that are checked as well including road speed, the design of the system is set so if there is any doubt of the car starting again then it will not engage.

                    Relax, it's fine

Sorry but it definitely isn't working fine. The main give away being that it was coming on while I was still coasting to a stop. It shouldn't be turning the engine off until I've came to 0mph for 0.5 seconds. All I'm asking is if there is any physical sensor that I can change myself or is it ecu related in which case will I need to go the dealers

At what speed would you say you are at when coasting and the Eco system kicks in? Is it less then 5mph?

The list I posted earlier is a general list to cover all the system versions but I do know that some of the Stop/Start systems did work when coasting at low speed as the DS3 I drove in France did this when I was waiting at a toll booth.

                          Around 10mph.

It's just barmy how after having it since November last year it hasn't worked and it works for 1 day all of a sudden and it hadn't worked since. I haven't changed anything. Weather hasn't been any different. Settings haven't been different.

                          Just strange that's all

My stop start kicks in when coasting at under 12 mph 64 plate I'm sure it mentions this in the handbook
