  • Ds3 sport in with citroen for timing chain fault

    Hi all
Thursday took my 13 plate ds3 sport into citroen with a funny engine noise when cold which turned out to be a stretched timing chain which they say was properly faulty from the factory, also they have found that there is surface rust on the head and are waiting for citroen uk to advise them what to do.
I know that pre 2012 thp engines had a number of issues timing chains etc but is this fault still continuing with newer engines and funny enough they say the parts to fix the timing chain are on back order so does not sound good and has anyone else heard of the rusting head.
    Many thanks in advance.

Sorry to hear this Hopefully your dealer will sort it asap, did they give you any timescales for the parts to come into stock ?

how did the funny noise sound?
Don't trust these timing chains myself- mine makes a rattle for a minute every day, and has done so for the last 28k
getting more nervous now the warranty expiration is creeping up

          Hi there
Mine did that sort of noise if you revered it up it kept coming and going for about five mins, rang citroen today when I pushed them about the timing chain being a common fault they did admit to it but said the new parts are upgraded to stop it does anyone know if this is true and the rust turns out to be on the camshaft which they are also replacing which they claim is moisture as sometime in its life it must of sat a while which I don't believe they are also having to replace the head gasket as they checked the valves weren't damaged.

I believe them, the camshaft gets oil all over it when the engine is in operation. So for it to have corrosion on it the car must have sat unused for a while allowing the oil film to drain off and condensation to get to work corroding it. Not unusual for any car that has been sitting. As long as the cam lobes and bearing surfaces are not affected it is not a problem which yours must have been.

There have been upgrades to the timing chain/tensioner over the years but as to whether they have solved it remains to be seen.
