  • Whistling noise when accelerating

    Hi all.
Long time viewer, 1st time poster here. I've had my dsport diesel a few months now and just done 2600 miles. I noticed yesterday a whistling noise (presumably from the engine) when accelerating. It seems to stop once the engine has warmed up and seems to start after I've driven it a few yards. Any one else experienced this and any ideas if it's anything nasty? I'm not getting any warning lights on the dash.
    Cheers, Simon.

    Is this only when accelerating?

Could be the turbo spooling but that shouldn't be TOO audible.. How loud is it?

Agreed that sounds like the turbo making that noise, it should only be very faint at best.

Cheers for the update folks. I'm concerned because it is a loud whistling noise and gets louder as I accelerate. I'm not really thrashing it either - probably not going over 2500 - 3000 revs. Should I book her in?

There's no harm in having it looked at but it sounds pretty normal to me.

I agree with the rest of the guys here. I sounds like the turbo kicking in. Having said that it shouldn't be especially loud though. BTW, welcome to the forum.

It is the turbo whistling, you can make sure by just taking your foot off the accelarator for a few seconds and it should stop, when you put your foot down should kick up again. I actually like the sound of it.

The turbo on mine makes a slight 'breathing' noise, which is barely audible at any revs.

A whistling turbo usually means air is leaking somewhere....but of course, it's difficult to tell without actually hearing it. What's being described as whistling, could simply be normal turbo noise.

Cheers for the updates folks. It's not actually done it since Monday so I'll just keep an ear out for it. It was loud and almost sounded like it was coming from the centre console/stereo which I admit sounds crazy as it was definitly linked to me putting my foot down. When it first did it the car hadn' t been used for a day so I'm wondering if it was something to do with that. I'll report back with any updates.
