Ticking Diesel on Acceleration?

Hi all :Joni:

Recently brough a Dsport 1.6 HDI, love the car, but what has been bothering me is how ticky it is on acceleration! especially up to 4k on the revs? Its a lot more noticable with window down, the more you accelerate you hear tick..tick..tick, gets quicker as you accelerate.
But on idle, you can barely hear it?
Would you say this is normal? I haven't owned a diesel in years so unsure what to expect...im used to a quiet petrol... Its 3 yrs old with 47k, regular services, last done in march this year...

Can you replicate the noise if you rev the engine at a standstill?

Thanks for the reply, i can replicate it to an extent.. but it doesn't seem anywhere near as loud as when your driving along?

Can you get someone to film it and capture the noise ? Aside from a normal diesel noise I haven't experienced this....

yes thanks for the advice i'll get someone to film it....it sounds like a loud tappets type noise, louder with the revs going up..soon as you let off the throttle, disappears

dont take the car up to 4k revs haha, its quicker to shift earlier

If you take your foot off and it stops it won't be tappets .... if it was tappets it would sound all the while

never take mine to 4K the peak torque is between 2-3

And I know the sound you mean it sounds like pinking my other diesel used to do it but only low down revs

Mine does this ticking noise at around 2/3 thousand revs. Mine is 110 hp diesel and done 17,000 miles. However it does disappear when it warms up
