OBD map access locked from 2013 plate?

Hi all,

New to forum, recently took ownership of a lovely black 2013 plate DS3 DSport Plus Cabrio THP 155, with a little under 10k on the clock.
Keen to see more of the engine's potential whilst the mileage was still low, I booked it in for a 187 bhp remap at my local Quantum Tuning franchise. I've just come away from there without the work being done, however, as the technician was unable read the existing file via the OBD port - it seems as though there is some sort of software lock in place to prevent unauthorised access.

He did, for the same price, kindly offer to bypass the OBD and cut open the ECU so that he could program it directly, but this would have taken longer and I was pushed for time, so I have rescheduled. Mine is the newest DS3 THP they've had in for remapping, apparently, and they've had no problems with earlier plates.

Anyone else experienced this ?

Jamie at SP Tuning is your man, mines a 12 plate and he had to remove the ECU in order to map it, cannot do it via the OBD port.

Yeah Jamie is an old hand at doing this for THPs/eHDi's He also owns a DS3 so really knows his stuff - where are you based ? Are you near SPTuning ? Even if you're not the drive home afterwards rewards you on it's own

Yes, I've been reading about Jamie's remapping heroism at SPTuning, and that would certainly be my preference. Unfortunately it's a 2 and a half hour trip each way from where I am in South Wales, which I'll never have the time for. So I decided to go to Quantum as it's only a few miles from me. The chap there says that they've successfully remapped older plates than my '13, which suggests something has changed; I have no reason to think he's being disingenuous, but if you're saying that SPTuning don't do OBD remaps at all, then it makes me wonder.......

You can remap via OBD but it's only on DS3s before 2012 IIRC.

Has anyone had the dreaded carbon-fouled valve inlet problem since their THP remap? Common sense seems to dictate that the more fuel the engine uses then the worse this particular problem will get. From what I've read it seems that 2012 plates onward don't suffer from this problem so much.

I think V Power just buys you a bit of time, from what I've read.

So the consensus is that all THPs will inevitably need a de-coking at some point? Not really satisfactory, but it is what it is I suppose.

I just traded in my Leon FR for the DS3, which had 135,000 miles on the clock and which was still running very nicely without any sort of intervention. Very good VAG engine. Much as I love this little DS3, I can't imagine it getting close to the Leon in terms of engine reliability.

To be fair the Petrol engine, a BMW unit, is the main source of engine woes on DS3 and is not a French or PSA designed engine.

Also according to Reliability Index Seat ranks much lower on the board than Citroen
