  • DS3 cold start issue

Hi everyone new to this forum so forgive me if this has arisen before.
My daughter has a 12 reg DS3 1.6VTi 120. last week she went to start it, it started fine but as soon as she touched the accelerator it cut, out this went on for 10 minutes when I recieved that shout Daaaad it wont go.
started the car and touched nothing for 2 minutes throttled it and all was fine, this has happened every day since. After doing some digging it was suggested the coolant temperature sensor was faulty and stopping the auto choke from coming on. Bought a sensor but found no existing sensor on the thermostat housing where it shoul be . It would appear that the sensor is inbuilt into the housing but cant find a match for it anywhere as it only has 4 outlets on it, 2 to the radiator and 2 tothe heater.
Can anyone enlighten me as to why this housing appears to be none standard or am I missing something. Cheers in antcipation.

There are 2 versions of the thermostat housing. In the original the sensor was part of the housing and in later versions it is a separate replaceable piece.

Call your Citroen dealer, the temp sensor is a recall issue, I had a similar problem with my 62 plate Vti 120 and when the repairer contacted Citroen to obtain the part they said my car was on a recall list, took it in, fitted the new sensor and hunky dory since.

          cold start

Hi all and thanks for the replys.
Sure enough went to my local citroen dealership talked to the DS tech guy who sourced the modified temperature sensor and bingo " Oh it appears your vehicle is on the recall list sir ".
Just a shame they wait until you have problems instead of contacting owners before it,s to late.
          Once again thanks.

Hi, i have had the same issues with my 155THP D-sport. first it was intermitant rough start then it was every time then eventually it would not start. i manged to bump start it and drove it to Citroen garage. they looked at it and said that the car sound have been recalled to replace the coolant temp sensor as it was telling the ECU the engine was hot when it was cold not bringing the choke in and not starting. they changed the sensor free of charge and its been perfect ever since.
think this is a common fault on here.
                good luck
