Wipers stopping on window

Help! My wipers keep stopping on the windows and then start again does anyone know what this could be?

Are they on auto is so might be the rain sensor which is mounted on the rear view mirror on the windscreen. Try cleaning the windscreen in that particularly area.

Can you explain more by 'stopping'. Do you mean the wipers physically stop on the glass or that they shutter across the glass?
