  • Broken DS3 after 6 weeks? Misfire and more

    Hi all,

Not a positive first post I know, but im hoping someone can help.

I bought a 62 plate DS3 Dsport Plus 155 (Full citroen service history, 37k miles) 6 weeks ago from a citroen dealer. Since then, ive had 6 problems, 3 of them in the last 2 days.

Ive had the whining clutch noise on pulling away, numerous rattles with the dashboard and doors that have not been fixed despite the dealer taking the car in twice, but now ive had the car go into limp home mode 3 times while doing about 70. Cant get over 30mph, feels rough and the fan stays on for ages when the car is turned off. I gather from reading other posts its a misfire and the fault codes showing are P1336 and P1337. The AA came out both times (currently sat waiting for the third guy to show up) and the second time he swapped the coils on cylinder 4 and 3 round.

Once he had gone I replicated the fault by flooring it in 5th gear from 1500rpm. Extremely lumpy acceleration and then a bang, and lo and behold - limp home mode again.

Im supposed to drive the car 130 miles to get home, but feel like I cant trust it anymore. After 6 weeks, this many faults surely mean I can cancel the finance agreement as the car isnt fit for purpose?

I'd name the dealer, but im giving them a chance to sort it tomorrow first. Anyone likely to know what it is so I can go in armed with better info?

    Thanks

Forgot to mention the other fault, the steering creaks like an old ship when turning right at low speed or at a standstill, but not left. It sounds like its coming from the glovebox (which also rattles!)

Sorry to hear this, I've not owned a THP but have seen a number of posts regarding issues with them on the forum. My advice would be to search for the error codes and issues you're seeing and read up on what happened to other owners with the same problems on the forum.

At the very least you can speak with more knowledge at the dealership. Have you been in contact with Citroen UK to see if they can help ?

      Good luck

Speak to trading standards who will give you ALL the correct information you can arm yourself with to visit the dealer with. The car is under 6 months from purchase so you have a lot of rights under consumer law.
I have a 155 THP and it is fantastic. A right little pocket rocket.

          Welcome

Sorry to hear of the faults so far

I've looked on the forum and found these re the codes

          P1336 - mis-fire more than 1 cylinder
          P1337 mis-fire cylinder 1

Toxic had P1337 and he said:

          I think his was a 155.

          It's from this thread - http://www.ds3club.co.uk/showthread....re-error-codes

            Hi all,

Update - they changed all the coil packs and spark plugs, error codes gone but can still feel a slight misfire at idle.

Think I got a friday afternoon car as it also has: groaning clutch when pulling away, rattles from both doors, dash and the rear of the car, squealing brakes, folding mirrors have packed up, creaking noise when turning right and the struts on the boot wont let it rise by itself.

Have spoken to the dealership who are taking it in on monday, confirming the faults and then ill be rejecting it.

Unfortunately it has put me off citroens altogether and will be replaced by a new fiesta st. Sad times, really wanted to like the car but this one has been a shed.

I tend to agree with you about the shoddy quality of these cars , mine has been in the bodyshop for the last 2 weeks getting the paint blisters done and when bodyshop took the sides back to bare metal they said it was like swiss chees and they cant guarantee rust wont pop out somewhere else on the bodywork in the future. This is one of the worst built cars I have ever owned, Hope you get your money back and get something you enjoy and doesn't fall to bits every time you look at it.

                Hi Edin,

My 2012 DS3 THP has had the exact same problems as you. I've had it for about 4 months and have put around 700 miles on it since. (Currently at 38k).

I hope to sell it before the end of the month. I bought it for 9k but I'll no doubt loose 2k in the process of selling it.

Oh well... Shit happens, back to my trusty 2001 1.4 Corsa which hasn't failed on me once.

So do I because I want them to know that mine is tip top for the almost 5 years I have had it.

Feel bad for you guys but then every manufacturer makes some that turn out to be lemons no matter how hard they try not to. The telling point is how they deal with the issues and if not satisfied just move on to another manufacturer. I know I will never buy a Mercedes again after having that AMG experience. I fully expected a Citroen to be a throwaway little car with good looks that would tied me over for a few years but it has unexpectedly turned out to be a pleasure to own. Would buy another Citroen after my DS3. Never thought I would say that.
