  • Wiring fault perhaps?

Hi folks and happy new year!

I have a very strange electrical fault I don't quite put my finger on. It only occurs when the lights are on, so usually at night that I can notice it. As I turn the steering wheel from lock to lock, the lights in the footwells and lower dash bowl flicker off and on, and if I hold the wheel at a point where it flickers off I can hear a whining noise from the wheels and then the lights stay off. It's only those few lights and I feel certain the fault if any is coming from behind the steering wheel. Only concern I have is, if it is a wiring fault, that it could be affecting the airbag as well which is scaring me. Any help or advice would be appreciated!

Are you on full lock when this happens ? Not heard of this before but one of my previous cars had an issue with the power steering pump (not sure but I don't think the DS3 has this) and it was loaded up too much the car seemed to want to route minor electrics to help the steering.....

If I were you I'd ask the local dealer to look it over - how old is the car ? Would you be within warranty still ?

I've known about the minor rerouting of power on full lock, but this happens randomly. For example, I'd take a very slight right turn and the mentioned lights flicker off and on. Warranty ended last year sadly. It's a 2012 car. Not sure if I should have a rummage myself or let the dealership look into it

There's no harm in having a rummage yourself - there might be some obvious chafing or other damage!

I recently found that a mouse had briefly taken up residence under the bonnet of my car - blighter gnawed pieces out of the rubber bonnet seal!
