  • Tyre pressures, 16" wheels.

I'm just about to replace my front tyres - after 37,000 miles! I've always run them at the specified 2,4 bar, which has resulted in over a millimetre more wear in the centre than on the edges, an indication of overinflation. Looking at Michelin's website they recommend 2,2 bar, which I'm going to use for the new tyre.

Is this just a recommendation from Michelin, or has Citroen also changed what they specify since 2010?

Checking the Michelin website it says 2.4 bar for both 195/55/16 and 205/45/17 (not 2.2). I have latter tyre size on a 2014 car, and telegraph's honest John suggests to improve the ride deflating to 31psi when cold will be OK as when warmed they will rise by 2 to 3 psi.

I've rechecked the Michelin website & for 195/55/16s on a 120VTi they say 2,4 all round for "laden usage", 2,2 on the front for "normal usage".

Since fitting the new tyres I've run the fronts at the lower pressure - I'll monitor wear & see whether it's more even. One difference I've noticed is that it's put more weight & feel into the steering with no noticeable tendency to greater understeer.

Given the wear you've seen I'd agree that the Michelin ratings would seem more appropriate.

I would not use under 2,4 in any circumstances. That's what it says on the B-pillar on the car (for THP) - for both tyre sizes. Personally I use a bit more, 2,6 to 2,8 for improved handling.
