The smoke from mine is white from what I can tell, but there is a lot of it and it can get quite thick - it comes up the back of my car so I can always see it in my mirrors and then when it gets really thick and smokey it can travel round the car to my side mirrors (I actually thought the car was on fire at one point!) - it just seems a bit wrong to me even though of course, I could be totally paranoid! This is my first Citroën - I've had Renault and Peugeot before and never experienced smoke like this.....never had a turbo before either though....?
Mine produces a lot of smoke too. Like Markymark said keep an eye on your oil and coolant levels by checking them weekly, that's what I do.

Regarding the 600 mile test period they said everything was as it should be and the oil consumption is normal. So I took to accept that answer and have just decided to live with it and enjoy the car.

Mine's the same, it produces a hell of a lot of vapour although I've got a different petrol engine to most. It may be down to the way the exhaust is set up on the DS3 maybe?

I've been checking my diesel exhaust and can't see any condensation vapour clouds when stopped at lights etc. I also followed a 2012 VTi this morning and it may have been warmed up but again there was no noticeable condensation on that either. I'm quite intrigued now

The steam from my 120VTi's exhaust was barely visible from cold this morning, but the outside temperature was 8°, so that's what I'd have expected. However, after about 30 seconds' running there was a droplet of water at the end of the tailpipe - that's the best way of checking whether or not it's steam you're seeing.

Yes when you look at the tail pipes on a thp there is literally water dripping off the exhaust tips especially on a stainless system

Hi guys-got dragged into work this aft so couldn't take the car to the dealers-however, it was a warm 6 degrees this morning and raining and the car did let off some steam but settled down much quicker and was minimal in comparison! Yey! So I am likely being paranoid but am going to take uour advice and check oil and water regularly, monitor the steam and see how it goes! Will keep you posted-Watch this space :-)

I have a DS3 Dark Light and suffer this issue. I'm glad I found this thread.

Complained lots to my dealer. I said I hadn't had a car in my 30 years of driving ever produce so much smoke and that I wanted them to take it back. Not had a reply from them in over a month now.

Not sure whether to push it or not and make a formal complaint. But I'm not sure what Citroen can do.

My Car really is the only car producing smoke in traffic. I find it embarrassing sometimes.

                      It's not an issue, it's a feature

It seems to be a common characteristic of our car to give off a lot of vapour. I wouldn't worry about it unless you're seeing performance or economy issues.

There is Smoke, and there is Vapour. Smoke will be either White or blue is colour and does not dissipate very easily. Smoke is the prodcue of excessive oil burning or Petrol/Diesel.

Vapour is white and dispates quickly. It is a build up of Water content in the cold air being forced into the combustion chamber and then thrown out of the exhaust. Also a build up of Water (as condensation) on the inside of the exhaust will also come out as Vapour and dissipate quickly.

Once the engine is upto running temp (needle in middle of temp gauge) does it still show exactly the same signed of your "Smoke"

My DS3 THP and my partners VTi 120 both show steam in the morning, but it is not smoke, it goes after the engine is warm.

If you want to see real smoke, just stick half a gallon of Diesel up the exhaust, then watch it smoke

Do you still get the white smoke or condensation like others do after longer periods standing still in traffic with warm engine? Mine does this regularly no matter warm or cold weather outside. Quite embarrassing during the high traffic.

At this time of the year, mine looks like a steam locomotive, and it still steams after warm up! but only when it's too cold outside, on warm weather there woulnt be steam... Dose it smell?

I don't have a DS3 anymore, but both mine and my Partners GTi's produce lots of steam from the exhaust, but that is normal this time of year - it's cold and plenty of moisture in the air.

It's more obvious on cars with a straight exhaust as the ds3 has. If you've got a down turned tail pipe it hides it a bit more.

When I left work yesterday in the Mazda I had to put my back wiper on to keep the rear glass clear with the amount of steam it was producing.

As said earlier in the thread unless it hangs in the air, or oil or coolant are going missing the chances are nothing is wrong.
