  • Nightmare start to owning ds3

Hi I am new to this forum having just bought a 13 plate dsport plus 10 days ago.

I didn't manage to drive it off the forecourt due to it having an engine fault which apparently the dealer said was a faulty alternator. They have now changed it which took a week and I picked it up yesterday.

This morning the fault alert reappeared and I took it back. I have been told it is the same fault code as before but they now reckon the stop start part has broken and they need to replace it.

First question is does any of this sound likely? I was surprised the alternator was faulty as the car has only done 26000 miles.

Second question would you stick with the car or give it back?

Third has anyone had the same sort of problems? Would a faulty alternator cause the Eco system to also fail?

Welcome to the forum, my question would be who would place a car on the forecourt that couldn't be driven off. Shocking attention to detail.

Personally I would return the car and find an alternate dealer.

Without a doubt just give it back and start again with your search for a car.

There's like 70 things the system checks before it lets the Stop/Start system engage, alternator would almost definitely be one of them.

I agree with SFG & everyone else, bad show on the dealers part, definitely look for a new dealer.

They should be able to plug in a diagnostic tool into the OBD port and read the fault codes. But agree with the above the car should be in working order when you but it.

Where has the car come from?

An official dealer or second hand dealer?

It is a main citroen dealer, car is still with them. Apparently there is nothing mechanically wrong with it and they have now changed the alternator and ECU.

They are now awaiting a software update from Citroen which they reckon will solve the issue, although they couldnt be certain.

I will be going down there this afternoon to speak to them. Nice car but it isnt working out for me.

These things happen and at least your dealer is "owning" the problem and getting things sorted.

Let us know how you get on.

Definately give it back. I've had trouble with mine from the get go as well. It's been up for sale on all the car sale websites for almost a month with no interest at all haha. I think everyone's catching onto the THPs unreliability
