  • My DS3 needs a new... alternator!

If anyone's been following the engine light worlds in this thread: Engine light on/off on my DS3
http://www.ds3club.co.uk/showthread.php?t=14240 I'm reporting here that the fault appears to have been detected.

I was told yesterday that the car needs a new alternator after what was initially thought to be a wiring problem causing the engine fault warning to appear. Thankfully I've got 5,000 miles of warranty left, otherwise it would've been £1,000+ to fix!

Has anyone else experienced this? Mine is a 115 e-HDI.

My Citroen main dealer. I won't name them at this stage (until the work has been carried out and the problem solved) but I was just as baffled at that quote...

They said it would be that amount for the part alone - which made me wonder if it's a bit more than the alternator? They said they needed to get clearance from Citroen UK to do it under warranty and the part isn't arriving with the dealer until next week.

I'm not worrying too much because it's under warranty, but this is one factor that puts me off buying another Citroen or DS; the dealer doesn't do a great job of explaining the problem, there is never any paperwork, and it's a struggle to get a courtesy car. If DS have premium aspirations, they need to get the basics right, and they absolutely 100% aren't cutting it at present.

Doesn't sound like just an alternator, sounds more like stop/start or something additional as well...

It's worth noting that earlier cars where fitted with a reversible alternator.

Even the 2012 onwards models ? Does the reversible bit make them v expensive ?

My dad has just paid £70 for a brand new alternator for his Citroen CX. I think a grand is a little off the mark.

Can often find someone that will do a rewind on 1 for a lot less than a brand new 1

Well, both the stop/start and cruise control have been affected by this fault that the car originally went in for... and are still not working.
