  • Speedo problem

    Hi all,

I am after some help after on going problems with my DS3 Sport. I have an intermittent problem with the speedo, it seems to just drop out. It did it before and it had new injectors as was loosing power at the same time. It come back and has been into Citroen and to be quite frank they think I'm mad, despite showing them a video of the speedo doing this they have question the road terrain and what my feet were doing at the time. It hasn't done it for a good while but now it's back. The car isn't loosing power this time and has been fine up until now. I just wondered if anyone else had similar problems or any ideas what it could be because my local branch have been useless to say the least.

By drop out I mean driving along at 60 then the speedo pin just falls to 50 and then picks back up to 60. Does it at other speeds too just an example. Rev counter also falls. Citroen say it is leaving no trace on the diagnostic reader as having a fault.

    Thanks in advance.

Mine has done this once, and only when it was very cold, and maintenance at my dealer weren't at all concerned as I never had any loss of power and they put it down to being a fluke with the cold :/

If you never had any power problems this time I wouldn't worry too much unless it is happening often.

As would I, sounds like either a sensor or electrical issue to me....

        I'd want it resolved

Sounds like a fault with the speed sensor, I would ask the dealer to take a look.

            Hi guys

Thanks for your replys, this has been out of the garage since I got it 2 years ago for this reason. This dealership near me said that cannot find fault so therefore cannot rectify the problem even though I showed them a video. To be honest I've had enough of it. I don't know what to do as no one seems to be able to help and just look at me as if I'm crazy. I've even been to trading standards with it and nothing.

I've recently moved so I might try my local dealership here but I don't see why I should have to pay for it.

            Thanks any way

            Laura

I sympathize with your frustration. You have an expensive car that you have paid for that is not working right. Just for a second try to understand the mechanics problem here. You have showed him your vid and he sees that there is a problem and now the big But. The fault is not there right now. How do you find a problem that is not there? Literally everything is working exactly as it should at that moment in time. What does he do then? I guess am saying that the mechanic is just as frustrated as you. Intermittent faults just suck for everyone involved.

Laus. Are you still paying for you car with finance? Your finance company, maybe Citroen, maybe able to help.

If the speedo is not correct then it is reporting the wrong speed and therefore it is failing a fundamental safety and legal requirements. I would be very worried that speedo is not correct and therefore hand it back to the dealership and tell them to fix it or face legal action.

                  Hi there,

Booked it back into the garage for Friday today was just horrendous going to work. Hopefully this dealership will have more luck. I have taken it to trading standards etc and basically Citroen have said they cannot confirm that the vehicle was sold with that fault so won't do anything. If they find anything on Friday I will go to money ombudsman. Thanks for not thinking I'm crazy.

                  I will keep you updated

Did they check the speed sensor as Biggie suggested above Laura ?

Just been to pick it up and I asked the guy he said it wouldn't be my sensor as my speedo would not work at all. Not sure how true that is?
Showed the video of the speedo I have and he was shocked and told me to log another complaint. Tried and they weren't interested and just referred me back to the dealership
