yeh the manufacturers bumped price up hugely at start of the year, as the were something like £220 at BMW end of last year, but they threw the price up but BMW were increasing it gradually but must now be up at full whack. Current Peugeot price is £446.82, before any discount.....

What is the part number for the Peugeot part - I guess for the RCZ THP? The dealer is Peugeot Citroen (Charters Aldershot) so I think the £808 quoted is very high if the part can be had for £447

I am also going to see if they will replace it using the Peugeot part if that brings the price down, and will be requesting it is covered under the sales of goods act 1974 as it appears to be a very common issue (aka design fault). I think 6 years is the norm for major and expensive items. Will update how I get on.

Will get the peugeot part number for rcz one if that's what ur wanting. The 207gti one is 1920LL. They might do the peugeot one but probably won't give u warranty on it despite it being the exact same part from citroen! Typical dealer!

As for the sale of goods act part, sorry but there's more chance winning lottery and having David Beckham turn up at your door asking if u want to go out for a kick a bout than them paying for the part and labour !

Mine was from BMW as the mini uses the same part, as mentioned on here it was a fraction of the price that Citroen wanted.

Yes six years but the onus is on you to prove the component has an inherent fault.

Citroen countered my argument with this one too. Being a private company they aren't at liberty to disclose how many they have replaced under warranty.

car parts like everything have a shelf life on how long should be used or last etc, should a tyre at 250 quid for example last longer than a 45 quid tyre?

each part is used differently from driver to driver, that's just how things work unfortunately, parts and components wear out at varying rates,

The laws in the UK concerning consumer rights are arguably the most robust in the world, this includes the distance selling act. If you can prove the part is inherently faulty then it will be replaced, by law.
The tricky part is proving it.

I have had numerous electronic items replaced well out of warranty, a £500 computer graphics card failed at four years old, two years after its warranty ended, I used the power of a number of user groups and expert to shore up my observations,.

It would be worth looking at longevity for other such pumps in other makes/models of vehicle to see if they last longer.

This is the reason extra warrantys on items like TVs are a waste of money,
