Middle of the gauge once warm sounds normal, how long is 'ages to warm up'?

I have a feeling this might be because of the on-demand water pump.
From what I gather, ECU stops water pump from pumping until engine is warmed up and it is needed. This means no coolant in the interior heater core until the engine is deemed warm enough by the ECU.
The ECU will also probably see a delayed temperature rise because coolant is not being pumped past the temperature sensor until the water pump is turned on.
This was kindof shocking for me the first winter, coming from a CR-V where I would get warm air by the end of my street even in icy weather.
Might try some experiments this winter and force the waterpump on all the time, or at least on those chilly mornings.
As for a different thermostat, won't make a difference. It looks like the heater bypasses the thermostat.
