Traction control cutting in

Hi all,

Had my thp for 4 months now with no problems. (touch wood)

Recently I've noticed the traction control cutting in when cornering, however not in a situation where the car is losing grip. For example, long sweeping 30mph curve, traction control light flashes intermittently, cant accelerate. Even for a few seconds after the corner the light continues to flash and I still cant accelerate until it stops.

Anyone got any ideas?
Or is the traction control system just very sensitive?

Sounds like you actually were losing traction (but didn't notice) and the system cut in OR something faulty with the system. Unless the road was wet and/or greasy, it's more likely to be the second option though. I've had 2 THPs, both driven very hard and I've only had the light flash a handful of times, usually wheel-spinning out of a junction or going a bit quick on a wet roundabout.

I would suggest you get it checked out by your dealer, just in case, it's not the thing you want to fail at an inopportune moment.

Also, you said THP but your 'DS3 model' is listed as VTi 120).

Sounds like the best idea, I'll get the dealer to give it a once over at the weekend. Changed from a VTi to a THP around christmas time, usually only use tapatalk so I'll need to get my profile updated.

Nipped round to the dealer on my lunch break today, they are claiming its down to the tyres currently fitted on the car. The tyres have plenty or tread, however admittedly they arent the best.

Still concerned theres more to it than this. I had the traction control cut in last night while changing lanes on the motorway, fairly good conditions, didn't feel like car was losing grip at all

Did you fit the tyres in question ? I have Michelin's on mine and whilst I can make the traction control work it's not a common occurence

The tyres came on the car. The car was bought second hand from a non citroen dealer, as such it came with only a 3 month warranty - so to be fair I dont think the dealer is very interested in sorting it out

All the more reason to get it back to the dealers asap.

In the interim, why not arrange a test drive of a DS3 at a Citroen dealership and see if you can replicate the TCS cutting in on the same bends you've been around in yours?

I picked the car up just before christmas so my warranty is long gone I'm afraid. Sounds like a good idea though, will have a look into it after work

The first six months

If you discover the fault within the first six months from purchase, it is presumed to have been there since the time of purchase - unless the retailer can prove otherwise.

During this time it's up to retailer to prove that the fault wasn't there at the point of purchase - it's not up to you to prove that it was.

That could come in handy, never knew anything about that! Once I verify the problem I'll be contacting the dealer. They were surprisingly helpful during the warranty period with sorting out little squeaks and rattles, so hopefully it wont come to that.

Bear in mind, you can still attempt to get them to fix the issue after 6 months have passed however the requirement to provide evidence that the fault existed before the car was sold to you would lie solely on you.

Don't delay, get a recorded letter sent to them asap.

I changed my rear tyres just before Christmas and in the wet for the first few drives in long corners I had the same.

It's ok now though, so I just put it down to the tyres.

Have the tyre's been changed since you purchased it 4 months ago?

Another thing to consider is when you first got the car, with more power than your Vti you drove a bit tentatively and now you are much more used to it and driving with more confidence and the tyre/traction fault was there from the start but other things may have changed since that masked it?

The tyre's may have have been at fault from the start but you weren't putting as much power into corners?

Theres potenzas on the rear and "maragonis" on the front, reading up on them it may be down to that. Seems like a bit of cost cutting by the dealer to get the car away. Considering swapping the fronts and the rears to see if there is any difference, if so I'll pick up a pair of potenzas.

Had the same problem a few months ago. Had the DS3 lowered and got new rear tyres. After this traction control kicked in on long curves. Took it back to the dealer and they switech the rear tyres with the front, after that the problem was solved
