Rattling noise from engine...

A friend of mine who's a mechanic thinks I need a new timing chain, really don't know what to do. Only had the car a year and it's only done 23k miles! (Someone owned it for 2 years before myself).
To make it worse my warranty ran out about 6 weeks ago

I took it to Citreon and they have tested it and said they're happy with it and that these engines are sometimes quite loud from cold and it goes quiet after a minute or so?
But it's been getting louder in the past few weeks, I just don't get it?
Should I get this in writing for future reference, I don't really know what to do about it.

Definitely get that in writing, it couldn't hurt. If they're really convinced about their analysis, it's no big deal for them, and if you happen to have problems further down the road, you've got a stick behind the door..

They are a bit rattly at start up anyway so that needs to be taken into account.
