  • Mechanical grinding noise THP 165 - gearbox?

    Hi all,

    I'll try and get a video soon but wondering if anyone can shed light before I take it back to dealership. Want to avoid wasting everyone's time if it is normal.

    I'm starting to hear a mechanical type grinding noise come from the engine bay, possibly drivers side. It seems to happen when coasting in gear (clutch engaged) or just prior to disengaging clutch.

    I've checked engine oil and it seems to be in the range, although the disptick on this car is shocking. How the hell anyone accurately uses it, I don't know. I haven't checked gearbox oil, if someone could point out how to check that?

    Anyone got any thoughts?

          That's the boy! WOW didn't realise it was 75$. I would learn how to use the current dipstick and a cloth properly for the sake of 75$.

                  Hey guys sorry for not replying above! Here's a video

                  https://youtu.be/2lCwjgdvgjw

                  You'll hear the noise I mean at 36secs (and most times after the BOV). and also at about 28sec before I change up to 2nd. It sounds kinda like a rattle.

                  @Jamie: I only have 5W30, will that do the trick?

                  @Hilas: nope, nothing like that

                    sounds like a loose coupling on one of the pressurized air inlet pipes.

                      Which in turn means, what? Off to the dealer and make them fix it under warranty, or can I pop my head under the bonnet and tighten it up?

                        give all the clamps a try on the pipes from turbo to intercooler and from intercooler to engine. See if one is loose.

                            quick update guys.

                            I checked all the clamps and pipes where I could, nothing was loose.

                            Have taken it to garage and it's with them, they've found that some bolts had been crossthreaded and sheared off from the heatshield so that has come loose. They're thinking that's the issue so have ordered some new parts and will hopefully get the car back tomorrow. We'll see if that fixes it!
