Wing mirror nuts, what size?

Hi all,

My driver side wing mirror seems to be coming slightly loose, and I want to get it tightened up. Last time I had the door off, I had a look but didn't seem to have any socket long enough that was the right size, so can anyone tell me the correct socket size required?

I think its 7mm, as my 8mm spark plug socket was almost catching it, but I'm not sure. Oh, and also, where the sodding hell do I get a long enough socket? It looks a right pain!

I can't remember the size, but you can get one long enough from Halfords.

It's an M8 nut according to the information I have, so it should be 13mm across flats. Your 8mm spark plug socket will most likely be ½", which is 12,7mm.

You'll need a very deep 13mm socket to get on the door mirror nut.

Maybe for a one-off job just a cheap box spanner?

Seems that my spark plug is actually 14mm, got that wrong somehow! Makes sense then that it feels like it's just catching the edges of a 13mm, to halfords it is!
