  • Footwell flooding.

    Hi everyone.

As a brand new forum member I thought it would be a good idea to inform you all of a problem I've just had with my DS3 Sport.

The drivers side footwell flooded after a period of heavy rain. I've had to fork out nearly £600 in repairs.

The alarm siren and wiper motor had to be replaced. (Citroen charged me £250 for a motor !! Does that sound right??) The alarm box was also flooded.

The problem was caused by the two drain holes below the grilles where the wipers are, becoming blocked with leaves and sycamore "helicopters".

I asked the service guy if this was a known problem. He replied that they regularly get DS3's in with this fault. (No doubt good for business)

If you prise off the thick rubber bonnet seal you can then lift the plastic grill to reach the two holes at either side. There's a rubber grommet with fingers sticking up that are supposed to act as a filter for detrious.

I've removed this to allow more stuff to flow down the hole.

When I told the service bloke that it was a bad design he reluctantly agreed.

I see that this fault has previously been discussed in some detail. However, I hope it reminds you to check out any blockages that might be building up before the flood starts!

Haven't heard of anybody reporting this in a while Tony so I'm sure it's a good reminder for most.

Joni will no doubt see this post soon. IIRC she created a guide on how to clear these with images somewhere

To be fair it's something that owners should be checking for themselves, there isn't a "design flaw" really because with any drain the more muck that fills the hole to quicker it's going to block. As part of a cleaning routine for the car I would suggest aiming the hose at the drain to help clear them out.

Think you there is a back to this that you can reach from inside the wheel arch. But does get clogged.

At least it doesn't flood and then burn out the engine management computer like the old E36 3 series BMW's

              Hi
I've had a look and found the two holes in the top picture but I can't find that rubber thingy In the second picture anywhere, is it in an obvious place or hidden somewhere?

              Thanks

If the rubber thing isn't there don't sweat it. Without it all that little junk will just wash away instead of being caught and plugging the hole up. My car only ever had 1 and I took that one out like 4 years ago.

I just cleaned both (or all 3) vents. There are 2 on the right side and 1 on the left. And I did it from the outside, stuffed my hand between the grill in the above picture and removed couple of handfulls of gunk. Finish with pouring water from above. Also what cannot be seen from the picture is that the rubber inserts have 2 parts: one in the picture and then another part that attaches to the top part and has a flap to prevent water from coming in I guess. Comes off really easily.
