  • Cost for service and MOT

Hi having a bit of a debate with garage around the cost for a service and MOT. I was charged £276, the car is a DS3 1.6 diesel 4 years old with 40,000 on the clock. I have been told that this is the price for a full service. What do you guys think? I feel this is excessive for a local garage?

Is there a break down for parts and labour on the invoice that could make things clearer, also many places charge about £50. for M.O.T.test,so say £160 plus the M.O.T. test charge plus V.A.T. would be about what you paid.

Must dig out my last service charges for my local garage and compare.

Mine was Full Service inc. Check lights, washers, wipers, tyre pressures and tread depths.

Check and top up all fluid levels inc anti freeze.

    Lubricate all locks and hinges.

Check suspension, exhaust and steering components, check and clean front and rear brakes.

Renew engine oil and oil filter.( I replaced the air filter of my choice myself )

General check over and road test.

Total inc.V.A.T. was £228.74. at 18,693 miles. Service only,M.O.T. Test not due yet.

    Philips Garage,Alton,Hampshire.

Yeah I'll post my stuff later when I get home, the mail dealer and Halfords are cheaper for full service just felt this was excessive

          3.75 syntium 5000 xs 5w-30 £28.13
          oil filter £12.00
          air filter £20.00
          fuel filter £29.75
          cabin filter £15.80
          engine flush £15.00
          diesel system treatment £15.00
          screenwash £1.00
          diesel full engine service £60
          MOT £40.00

          Total inc VAT £276.

I booked it in for service and MOT, the car needed rear break pads which I paid over and above this. Is this normal work for a service at this time span? I had a major service last year and didn't expect this price tbh from a local garage.

Snake oil! Totally unneccesary, but a nice little earner for the garage.

@DaveB yeah I know that now, I honestly was surprised though as had used them before. I assumed a service and MOT was a standard thing. I left a review on Yell and now he's giving me grief, but I do feel that it was unnecessarily expensive. I got a break down the next day as I wanted to know where the price came from as I could get a Major service from Citroen including MOT for only £229.

Did your garage not provide you with a cost beforehand - or did you not ask for one ?

What a rip off. Mind you main dealer would also shaft you.

I never , but I shall in future. A lesson learned agree a price prior to work, and get a run down of what you get. I stupidly assumed it would be the same as a service from Citroen.

I thought so but he's sure I got value for money and doesn't know why I'm questioning the price and what was done, I just wanted a few of you guys to reassure me that I wasn't going mad ! Ha hap

shop around is the moral of your story. Heavy tho.

Keeping vehicles maintained does get pricey nowadays tho
