  • Should I be worried?

Had our 'new' (13 plate) DSport Plus for about 3 weeks and today the engine light came on saying oil was low. Should I be worried? It was serviced in March and MOT'd in July, just wondering if it could be a sign of an underlying problem? Is only done 13k miles.

Going to top the oil up and see how it goes, luckily we got a 12 month warrenty with it.

So 5 months since the oil was last topped up? Do you know if it was topped up or filled to max level then?

There's no indication in the service manual as to if it was topped up and if so to what level. If it was it certainly doesnt sound normal to me, but i guess the only thing i can do is top it up and keep an eye on it?

I used to top my 120 up what felt like every two months.

Also depends on the mileage you are doing.

These threads might offer some help:

Check the level, keep a note of your mileage and compare to consumption.

Ive only done 400 miles since Ive had it and it was only doing 4k miles a year when the previous owner had it.

My previous DS3 never had this issue, but i'll get it topped up and keep an eye on it

Have you checked under the bonnet for any signs of leaks? Oil on the top of the engine etc? Might be an idea to give the whole bay a good wipe down, and at your next oil level check, take a light coloured cloth and give everything a re wipe. Oil is dirty and doesn't move far from the source, so will be easy to spot find any new area's if there is any thing causing it other than general consumption etc.

I haven't noticed any oil leaks or any in the engine bay.

Spoke to my dealer who told me the brand of oil i need so will get it topped up and keep a close eye on it

Looking at the oil level it looks like theres plenty in there, its about 3/4 between the min and max (or thats what it looks like as its hard to tell).

Has anyone ever seen the warning come on when theres plenty of oil in it? I've topped it up with just a bit and am just waiting for it to settle before I see if its made a difference

Tried to get a pic of the oil level as it stands, looks fine to me but the Service light is still on and its still saying oil is low

It does take a while to register from oil needed to ok. My 120 would beep for ages after I'd topped it up.

Yea but if you look at the pic thats pretty much exactly as it was before i put any in. That to me looks like there's plenty of oil so theres no reason for the message to come up?

Im going to ring my dealer tomorrow but they're 40 miles away and dont want to risk ruining my engine by driving it!

So ive just rang the service dept and they asked if the Service light is showing as red or amber, does it change colour?!

Ive basically been told I can drive it the 40 miles to the dealer at my own risk or get it towed there at my own cost so Im a bit stuck.

Would i be better taking it to my local Citroen dealer and get it looked at at my own cost?! The 12 month warrenty seems a bit useless at the min

The Dipstick is the main thing if oil level is Ok then Ok to drive. Oil light on with oil level ok on dipstick then oil level sensor issue and not a big thing. Does the display in the one with the gas level say oil ok, oil, or oil_ _ on startup? But as WTF noted if the light came on from low oil then takes awhile after adding oil to go out.

I dont know tbh i'll have to check when i get home.

I think im going to have to risk driving it as i cant really see an alternative.

In terms of the red/amber light, i think he was confusing the Service light with the Stop light
