  • Advice needed on 155 THP

    Hi all,

Just wondering if someone could point me in the right direction and advise on the symptoms I am having..? I can then approach Citroen with a clear picture!

My car sometime runs really well but on other days it lacks a little as if the turbo isn't 100% etc...

Here is something I can replicate all the time though:

If I lightly put my foot on the accelerator it boosts really well and I get what seems like 100% performance.

If I accelerate hard I get small amounts of stuttering through the rev range (unless I give it beans all the way in 1st, 2nd, 3rd.)

PS I have noisy rattle/noise on cold startup which sometimes makes my car sound like a diesel

    Any info appreciated

Carbon build up on the inlet valves.. Unfortunately you're one of many with that problem.

Even using Shell V-Power or similar, you'll just slow down the process, but it's a common problem with direct injection engine.
New engines from others manufacturers are using a mix setup, which allow the fuel to "clean" more efficiently those areas, but using direct injection as well to improve efficiency.

Other GDIs (Like mine) have additional injectors to wash away carbonisation

Agree with the previous comments but would ask what mileage your car has done. Mine did it a few times at about 9000 miles just before a service. After I'd had it serviced it didn't do it again. Currently on 16000 and so far so good.

            Thanks for the suggestions everyone.

The car is a 14 plate with 24000 miles on the clock. I got it in February with about 21 and ever since I have used premium fuel in it as I felt it performed a little better.

After reading other peoples carbon issues I think I'm not going to get much sense out of Citroen so will try to find someone in South Wales to do it.

            Thanks

            Paul

                Hi all

Just to keep you in the loop. About a fortnight ago I decided to do a Terraclean because of the hesitations I was getting and knowing I couldn't get to Jamie's for walnut blasting (although I have found SWSS mini in Cardiff)

Just after the terraclean my car stank of petrol/additives. Lasted nearly a week and I didn't notice any difference. Just about a fortnight now and the car is pulling like a train and the hesitation in 3rd low revs is gone.

Do you think this is temporary..? It seems to have done the job but for how long I guess.

Interesting to hear your views and whether I should make sure and go for a walnut clean!

                Paul

My guess is this is only temporary. Terraclean doesn't help with carbonisation of the inlet valves, since the fuel doesn't pass by the valves, so the product doesn't either..

Wonder why Jamie at SPT was considering becoming an Agent for Terraclean if its no good for inlet valves. Terraclean claim it does work

                      Hi both

This Terraclean was done to the fuel lines & the inlet (they disconnected the air intake and put a pressurised adaptor in there).

I'm thinking the inlet valves might be a little more "smoothed" since the work so maybe this is why its going well now. This could be temporary though but I do wonder how long it will work for.

                      I'm quite surprised!

^ Good news, will certainly give Terraclean a go when needed

I have never considered becoming Terraclean agent, they approached us and asked if we would like a demo...which I cancelled in the end.
If I was to choose and engine de carbonising system I would probably go down the the route of using hydrogen based cleaning. Still won't touch the intakes though.

I'm still getting great performance on the car so I'm happy for now. If/when it comes back I will try warranty first and if citroen don't play ball I will walnut blast. I wouldn't hesitate to come to you Jamie if it wasn't for the distance so will go to local agent.
