What's this noise?

Can anyone identify this noise? You may have to listen closely as I was trying to record this myself by holding my phone outside the car. Noise goes away when my foot is pressed on the clutch and comes back when the cars idling. https://youtu.be/HVonz_Zwvl4

possibly clutch bearing on way out.. but it may well be something completely different

I'd go with clutch thrust bearing and it would make getting into gear more difficult if it's bad because it basically enables the clutch plate to be released.

Is that expensive to replace or is it something that could be done under warranty?

Have not done one for many years, and not on a modern clutch, but assume it still involves dismantling the clutch so probably pricey. Also, most places recommend you change the whole clutch (pressure plate etc) since it's out. You may or may not get it done under warranty depending on whether you can convince them it's not fair wear and tear eg your car's only done 5000 miles!

One of the main reasons the clutch (release) bearing goes, is because sometimes people rest their foot on the clutch when not even changing gear, or about to.

How many miles has your clutch done? Most clutches should averagely last 70-80k miles. Any less and its either a rough user, or less than say 35k miles it could have been faulty and a chance of being replaced under wrranty

Agree that if a release bearing is to be replaced, the recommendation would be to replace the whole thing... gets costly

36000 miles on it but I've been complaining of a gear issue since I got my car, it had 16k on it and it has been back to the dealers on around 8 occasions because I have bother selecting gears and they've literally told me there's nothing wrong with it and bled my clutch a few times/changed the gear box oil but now that noise has started so I think I'll send it back in and see what they say. Also, is it normal in DS3's for the clutch pedal to be higher than the brake pedal? My clutch pedal is really high!

Think you have clutch issues. Usually brake and clutch perdals are the same height

Dealers are telling me this noise is from the transfer box? Can anyone tell me if the 1.6 diesel has a transfer box or a diff? I haven't taken it home with me as I'm not happy with it!

Transfer box? I think not! I suspect your noise may be a gearbox input shaft bearing - when the clutch is engaged it's being driven by the engine, when you press the pedal to disengage the clutch it's no longer being driven.

I refused to take the car back so they're taking a look at the clutch today, can you tell from a visual inspection the the input shaft bearing or release bearing is done? At the end of my tether with my car and the dealership and my next nearest Citroen is a 60 mile drive away.

Unfortunately this is the sort of fault that can only be diagnosed with any certainty by removing the gearbox.
