Will be happy with 190bhp but how safe is it?

No alteration from standard is "safe". As said, it puts pressure on certain parts that are not designed for it. My HPFP and ECU ended going pop running close on 200, so dropped back to 165 output by virtue of the exhaust (so no modified engine) and decided on upgrading the car.

(Now run close on 300 BHP as standard, without any worry)
