  • Black stain on turbo

    Hello,

Wonder if anyone can shed some light, I noticed that my turbo has started to turn a little black like 'sut' is on it.
I'll attach a photo. I have the 1.6 HDI 110. Just wondered if this was normal?

    Thanks,

    Tom

That doesn't look like it's confined to just the turbo. It's most likely to just be dirt carried into the engine through the air and when it rains.

I would be inclined to agree with this, it looks like its spread across your bay rather than just the turbo, i think it just looks like it stands out more because its silver. Get a damp cloth over it see if it comes off.

Thank you both! i might just give it a good clean when I get chance, reason why I asked was because i noticed it suddenly, I always pop the bonnet to have a look at things, etc.

Is it all ok now? Cleaned and no sign of return?

I see this a lot on 1.6hdi, it's usually an early sign of excessive exhaust back pressure caused by the DPF partial clogging usually. The turbo has no gaskets between its mounting surfaces with the manifold and just relies on a perfectly flat machined surface to create a seal.
