    DS3 Power Steering Rack and ECU

    Hi All,

    Last week the power steering went on my wifes DS3 - It was really heavy - almost undrive-able! The dashboard error of "Power Steering Fault" and "ESP/ARS faulty".

    Having been into Citroen, they said they the power steering rack and ECU needs replacing - £1300!!!! NOT GOOD! They said they checked common problems like fuses etc.

    When asked why it had failed they couldn't answer - they just find the fault and not what caused the fault. We're going to have to get the repair done as the car is worth approx. £4,500. But now my wife is wondering what the cause is and could it happen again?

    Anyone have any experience of this failure? or any advice? We really don't have £1300 just sitting there waiting to be used!

    I'd recommend taking the car to an independent garage that is happy to replace with second-hand parts.

      I've just asked a friend of mine that worked for citroen a few year back and he said that only citroen would be able to "start the steering up". He said I could get the rack fitted elsewhere but Citroen would definitely be involved somewhere along the line.
      I'd be worried that something went wrong and I wouldn't know who to blame! Would it be a faulty part? Incorrectly fitted part or Citroen not doing their bit correctly!

          I've just asked a friend of mine that worked for citroen a few year back and he said that only citroen would be able to "start the steering up".
          Could you not ask the same friend if he has any contacts that could help you with this part?

              He's asking a guy he knows if he can get them to do anything with the price.... fingers crossed!
