Hi all, just reading this thread.
    I have a 2011 thp with 45k.

Started hunting on idle from cold, engine light on and fan turns on even when engine off.
Garage changed timing belt and fan sensor.

3weeks on and 400 quid and same problem. Is this the carbon valves issue? And does anyone have the fan issue as that threw me a little as it doesn't seem related.

I'm a southerner also but will happily take some islets if I can get this sorted. 😊
    Thanks

    Aaron!

Sounds like you have low fuel pressure, new pump required....
Fans come on due to fault being triggered.

Crap! I was actually going to call you tomorrow see if you thought it could be anything to do with needing a
walnut blast. It's pretty intermittent. Any way of finding out for sure before forking out for a pump?
        Cheers.

Yes, get the fault codes checked and also log the actual fuel pressures.

Ok so I'll take it back to the mechanic that changed the timing chain to fix this issue and tell him it's still
            doing it.

What codes should I expect? I assume he will know how to check actual pressures and what they should be.
Would I have to wait for it to fault again first? eml went out today.
Probably gonna have a walnut blast soon as car is at 45k.
            Thanks for the help.

Yes wait for the car to show up a fault before taking it back. Also make sure they have a diagnostic tool that will read the manufacturer codes as it won't show all the faults if just EOBD codes.
Generally faults show as misfires on 1 or more cylinders and if pressure is really low you should get a fuel pressure regulation fault.

Last time it showed some cylinder faults. He reckons if the fuel pump was going I'd get a fuel pressure fault code. Need to find a way of asking him if he has the right code checker without insulting him....
he said it sounds like a coil pack problem.... will see what he says Friday when it goes in.
                Will update then.

Also do you have a place you get the hpfp from?

                Cheers.

Quick update, started car this am, minus 2 and car just warming up, started nearly stalling at idle which is
what it had been doing, as soon as I rev it it's fine and revs up. If it was fuel pump wouldn't it cause
problem even on revving and even when car is hot?
eml didn't come on because I kept it revving this morning, I think if I left it idleling it probably would have
                  Come up.

Fuel pumps always show early signs of failure especially when cold.

Ok cool thanks. Will see what codes say etc. Just wanna be as sure as I can before I fork out all that money for one. Thanks for the help.

                        Update.
Was in the garage all day yesterday. I realised the car was hunting when ever I turned on any auxiliary power such as heated rear screen etc. Then throwing up the fault so I let it fault and took it in.
Fault codes were misfire cylinder 1&4.
Tested battery which said it was faulty and needed replacing. Replaced...Started car this morning and same problem.
Runs for a few minutes, then hunts and kicks up fault or if I use extra power in car it hunts and faults.
Booked back in for next week. He tested fuel pressures which were fine but it wasn't hunting at the time. He thinks possibly coils but fault goes when car is warm. Does it still sound like fuel pump issue? The hunting
When using auxiliaries threw me, couldn't find that issue anywhere on the forum.

I guess I've gotta throw more money at it. Anyone think a Citroen garage would be better to go with?

                          Food for thought

                          Hi all,

Got a 2012 1.6 THP 120, and I've got an engine warning (P1339 - Cylinder 3 misfire) light which I believe to be coil or sparks and am in the process of changing thanks to a great post on here. Not why I'm posting though.

I am reading this post about carbon build up, and walnut blasting...basically, since I got the car at nearly new (just over 1k miles) I made a decision early on to use the fancy fuels that claim to keep the carbon deposits down. Mainly Shell vPower Nitro 2 ++ Extra Pants-down Premium Unleaded (TM) since the work vehicles use shell, too.

I'm now just over 50k miles and don't feel like the power has dipped, or have had any problems that people are prescribing walnut blasting for.

Just wondered what people make of this? What they feel about paying the premium for fuel (for Shell, I think it's 4p or 5p more per litre)?

You never see any long-term corroborating evidence for these fuels, so this thread was interesting for me. The fact that it seems it's a "known issue" with this engine, and I don't think I've got it.

                          Cheers

I paid premium fuel for the first 19k miles on my THP , still went into Citroen under warranty to have a similar treatment to walnut blasting.
Still use premiums, but don't think they burn much cleaner

Ed. Think most premiums getting on for 10p pricier per litre

Need my luck to change. My exhaust fell off, completely corroded and snapped all brackets, and now this engine fault
