  • Very worrying possible coil snap???

    Hey guys
Any serious help or advice here is much appreciated!
Tuesday morning I got in my DS as normal but when I 'flopped' into the driver seat there was a loud 'Clunck' sound followed by the sound of what sounded
like a spanner being dropped on the floor. Being too dark to look at the time i drove off to work and the car was perfectly fine no issues at all noticeable even
now (Saturday) the car feels no different. When I got home I noticed a round black heavy snapped ring on the floor where my parking space is which is clearly off my DS. Please see picture attached.
It looks to me like it is the coil snapped from the rear suspension arm as the clunk came from the rear of the car but your input on this guys is MUCH appreciated.
If it what I think it is then how much will this set me back and also on close inspection of the ring it looks like small bubbles on the one broken end which
indicates welding????????????? Not sure please let me know what you all think.
In advance guys thanks very much. Please see picture attached

That is not a possible coil snap. This coil is snaped.
Didn't know this happens to the DS3. Last year on my mum's C2 both front springs broke within a few months.
The mechanic told us it is a known failure at the C2. Also experienced this with a rear spring on a Peugeot 207.
You should check your spring immediately and replace the broken spring.
Regarding the welding i can't see it on the picture.
IIRC replacing a single front spring for the C2 was about 250 to 300€.

That looks very similar to the part of a front spring that broke off my car last Thursday. You need to check very carefully before you use your car again

Unfortunately the rest of it slipped down the suspension strut and cut through the tyre wall, causing a blowout at 50 odd mph.

The broken bits are currently being examined by the dealership and Citroen. I was told that it's the first one the dealership has come across on a DS3 (well known on older C3s) but I've found at least three instances recorded on this forum

I forgot to add that the failure appears to have been triggered by surface corrosion where the plastic coating on the spring had been damaged by something rubbing on it. I suspect it was caused by this piece of something that was wrapped around part of the spring.

here's a pic of the stuff that I found in another thread

The plastic wrapped around the spring is to keep it from making a clunking sound when it is fully compressed.

Hi Owd thanks for your reply. well my engine management light has now come on and car feels very sluggish so this appears to be a seperate issue for me unless as you say
this part has come from the front and has maybe dislodged something when it snapped? I have used it on the motorway since this happened and (touch wood) the car
was fine. I have tried ringing my local dealer this morning, they are open from 10 but no one answering the phone and I emailed the online contact form on Friday
and no one has replied. Frustrating times!!! It does sound like this could very well become a common fault given what you have said, do you agree?????
            Thanks

Hey me again sorry, would you be able to share with me the details of your Citroen Dealer that is investigating your issue so when I eventually get in contact with Evans Halshaw
Citroen I can make them aware as potentially depending on the findings they could foot the bill for this repair work?
              email is willaviseuk@yahoo.co.uk
              Thanks
