  • DSTYLE + 2011 advice needed for replacing rear silencer (bracket rusted)

Hi there, hoping someone can advise - the bracket on the back box rear silencer has rusted through leaving the exhaust hanging off (not dragging on the ground)

Took it to my local Citroen dealer and of course it's not a case of just replacing the bracket, the whole silencer needs to be replaced, requiring these parts:
    - 0000173631 FRT PIPE SLEEVE - £41.51
    - 00001730FA REAR SILENCER - £323.71
    - 00001755J4 EXHAUST MOUNTING - £13.32
    - 00001755R2 EXHAUST MOUNTING - £12.56
    - 00006936C9 NUT WITH BASEx3 - £4.35

Including labour the total cost comes to just shy of £500, so... is there a cheaper way of doing this?

I'm considering purchasing the parts myself, but as a total noob I'm not entirely confident I'm going to end up with the right bits (do the numbers listed above relate to the parts or are they just a code used by the dealer?)

I'm also considering doing the work myself - the main challenge for me will be getting underneath to do the work, but assuming I find a way, is the operation itself fairly straight forward?

Any advice greatly appreciated, going to get a couple more quotes tomorrow.

    Based in High Wycombe

    Thanks

Welcome, if I were you I'd take it to any garage or an exhaust specialist and see if they can just weld a bit of scrap metal on to make a new bracket and mount. Would probably cost £100 tops.

Alternatively, for £500 or likely less you could get a custom fabricated fully stainless steel exhaust from the cat back. Your choice of loudness/quietness and exhaust tips too. Should have a lifetime rust-free guarantee too.

      Weclome

As above, but I'd also go and get it looked at by someone else - just for another opinion. The bracket corroding is a common fault but not heard of the silencer going too? JUST incase it's not the whole thing that needs replacing.

When my DS3's bracket went it was just re welded.

Custom is your best bet if you wanted something that's not standard, don't get too hooked up on the big brands that just make a certain kit

Rear silencer brackets can be had from ebay.

One of those plus welding the other brackets back on might work
Bog standard 2010 DSport THP150, 1973 Clan Crusader, 2003 Harley Davidson Softail, 2007 Vespa 250GTS, 2011 Peugeot Boxer campervan ,a few push bikes, and one eMTB

Thanks everyone, just to clarify for WTF, the silencer hadn't gone but was told that the bracket couldn't be replaced on it's own :/ To be fair the rest of the bracket did look rusted on.

Anyhow, I went to my local earlier and they ordered a new bracket and they fitted it this afternoon £50 in total :P

They did say it was a bit of a struggle so I'm going to give benefit of doubt to Citroen that this probably wasn't the 'proper' way to do it, but saved a fortune on what (to my untrained eye) looked like a fairly straightforward issue.

          Thanks again

            That's a way better outcome!

And people grumbling working on Citroëns is pretty normal!
