  • snapped coil spring

    Hi
Whilst turning around in the road there was a loud bang and a knocking noise from my passenger side wheel.
when I got out I found a piece of the coil spring on the floor.
are these easy to replace myself or do I need to take it to a garage?
also any suggestions on brands to use.
I just want like for like not lowering springs or coilovers lol
    thanks
    mike

So taking the same amount off all round is out then

Also, has it sat back where it needs to be after losing a bit?

Are you sure it was part of your coil spring? Could have been lying in the road already and you ran over it.

Rear spring is easy and quick. Front, not so much, the whole strut has to come out to take the spring off then need an alignment after you put it all back together and reinstall it.

yes definitely mine the bottom coil has snapped clean off .
The problem is it has snapped just on the edge of the bottom plate so its not sitting correctly.

Citroen have just paid for the replacement of both my front springs and reimbursed me for a tyre that was savaged by a sudden spring failure. It took some weeks arguing with customer services though.

One of mine went a couple of weeks ago. 3 years old and 22000 miles.
Think they are made of cheap Chinese steel

35,000 miles here and I've just the rear driver's side coil snap. It snapped at the bottom due to rust, this because the rubber coating on the coil has failed to do its job.

Snap - same here at 51,000.

Is this an MOT fail with only a small section of the coil at the bottom lost ?

I believe so, mine was picked up for a snap at the bottom of the OSR spring. Again, about 50k miles, but I suspect it had been broken for a while without me noticing.
