  • Rattle throughout exhaust when revving

    Hello all,

    I've recently just bought a :ds3: THP 155, 62 plate, which is amazing. But when I rev past 2500 and stop, there is a rattle that seems to run throughout the exhaust system? I've just took the car to the garage to see what it is. But I'm wondering if anyone else has this problem? or wether it is natural and supposed to sound like that?
    Thanks for any replies! :ds3::bow:

    If you could get a video that would help most.

    Has the exhaust bracket corroded away possibly? Can you move the exhaust freely with your hand or is it fixed in place?

      I can move the tailpipe reasonably freely but I just thought that this would be normal, so that it wouldn't snap if I hit a bump?

        Check the bracket holding the exhaust hasn't rusted away. It's a common fault that can be fixed with a bit of welding.

          I will check that when I get it back. I'm interested to know what the garage will say about it. because prior repairs, with other cars, they have told me lots of different things that could amount to loads of money and then other places have said its something little.
          Best thing is though, its under warranty, which is the only reason I've took it there

            Yeah definitely sounds like 'zorst bracket has rusted away if you can move it freely

              The heat shield around the cat and the turbos hot side has also been known to come loose. My advice would be to start banging on different pieces of the exhaust and see if anything makes noise.

                Now you mention it, yeah that happened to me after about 3 months and sounded like a rattle but it was only really when moving.

                  If it is the bracket Citroen usually suggest replacing the whole exhaust. Other garages with more than half a brain should just be able to clean up the area and re-weld.

                    Funny you should say that, as I am looking at getting the non resonated cobra cat back exhaust system. So if that was the case, would it be safe to wait a month or two, to then get the new sports exhaust put on?

                      Sure, it shouldn't cause any issues in a short space of time.

                      I'd still recommend checking that is actually the cause of your rattle still.

                        Yeah, I will check for that when I get car back, providing that they haven't resolved the problem already

                          Well sometimes, when the engine is cold and I'm driving around and there is cars either side of me, I can hear a little rattle noise, but it only happens when I'm accelerating and the sound stops, if I brake, engage the clutch and stop accelerating?
