  • White smoke from very front of THP

    Hi All,

Not posted in a while so forgive me!

Was driving home from work last night, 10 miles of mixed motorway/town roads. Got the majority of the way home, was sitting at traffic lights and noticed smoke coming from the front of the car.
Opened the bonnet however there was nothing obvious at all, the smoke was coming forwards through the front grille where the Citroen emblem is. Limped the car home and jacked up the front for a look under the bumper to see if I could see a bit better - once again nothing obvious however my view was quite restricted by the bumper.

Anyone have any ideas as to what this could be? I don't think its condensation as I've had the car for over a year and driven it in most different conditions without this happening.

I drove to the gym late last night, maybe 5 miles(ish) and back, no smoke. However, this morning driving to work we had smoke again. It snowed last night however the smoke was definitely coming through the front grille around the emblem again.

Any ideas? Car is well out of warranty on a 61 plate at 42k and looking to change cars in the next 2 months so would rather avoid a dealer visit.

Oil was about half way on the dipstick so topped it up, coolant was still full.

        Coolant was my first guess.

No signs of any leaks anywhere? You haven't spilled a bit of oil over the rocker when topping up?

Try running the car with the bonnet up for a while to see if you can trace the source of the smoke/vapour.

Does it have any smell to it?

I had a look on the drive this morning when I moved it to leave for work, no leaks that I could see. There were a few drops of oil on the rocker cover from topping up but when the bonnet was open the smoke definitely wasn't coming from there. Its as if its inside the front bumper and coming out through the grille.

There isn't really a smell to it as such, not much use unfortunately.

The only thing there is your intercooler and radiator. Sure one of those hasn't sprung a leak?

I get this quite often, in traffic the car in front blows out a steam cloud from the exhaust when moving off but it bounces up your bonnet and looks like it's come out of your engine.

Experiencing white smoke from the front of your THP (Turbo Heat Pipe) can be a concerning sign. White smoke often indicates condensation or oil burn-off within the engine, or possibly coolant leaking into the combustion chamber. If left unchecked, this issue could worsen, affecting the engine's health. To handle this, it's crucial to get professional assistance quickly. While you're searching for help, you might also want to locate a reliable vapeshop near me for any vaping supplies you may need while dealing with car troubles.
