  • New Owner Questions

New owner here with a few quick questions if anyone can advise?

Got car home to find some snapped clips on the drivers side plastic skirt. I've ordered a bag of clips to attach this myself rather than do a 40 mile round trip to get the dealership to sort it (and end up waiting ages I guess). To reattach new clips, does the skirt have to be removed entirely or can damaged ones be replaced without taking the whole thing off?

Also, my DStyle Plus doesn't have Bluetooth or USB port so I'm hoping to replace the head unit with an aftermarket one. My question is, what is the difference between buying one for £65 (with those features) and buying one for £130 (with those features)? I understand the need for the Connects2 box, patch lead depending on make of unit and the Tekra aerial lead.

    Cheers
    Baz

Without knowing exactly what the products and brand are, all I can tell you is there's a £65 difference!

Best just plan on taking it all the way off and replace all the clips. I really don't see another way and it will be easier like that anyway.

Thought as much! At least I can clear all the much out of it at the same time I'm not technical in the slightest with cars but only going to learn by having a go! Cheers.

I'll be getting a branded unit so either a Pioneer, Kenwood or Sony most likely... but comparing a £65 unit to a £130 unit, I can't see a lot of difference. For the amount of time I'm in my car I'll be happy with a lower end unit I think, as long as it has Bluetooth and USB.

I used to have a cheaper brand unit in my car, but quickly switched out to a Pioneer one in the end, performance wise there isn't too much difference, especially if your sticking with the stock speakers you probably won't have to worry too much and probably wouldn't notice a difference.

The biggest reason I changed to a branded stereo is I wanted to keep my steering wheel controls for the stereo which also enabled me to enter the cars settings for time/date and so on.. With a non-branded unit unless you find an adapter that will allow you to keep those controls that will work with the lower end brand stereo you have, you will likely loose those controls, so your time will eventually end up wrong when clocks go forward/back. If you go for a branded stereo I would recommend the connects2 branded adapter that you mentioned above.

Yeh, will definitely be getting branded, just probably the cheapest version possible with the features I want such as http://www.halfords.com/technology/car-audio/car-stereos/pioneer-mvh-390bt-bluetooth-car-stereo?cm_mmc=Google+PLA-_-Car+Audio-_-Car+Stereos-_-281425&_$ja=tsid:60494%7Ccgn:GoogleShopping%7Ckw:2 81425&istCompanyId=b8708c57-7a02-4cf6-b2c0-dc36b54a327e&istItemId=xwxlrlwrra&istBid=tzwt&_$ja =tsid:35522|cid:344534764|agid:24344212204|tidla-266656263761|crid:83789081524|nw:g|rnd:40486448266 54705729|dvc:c|adp:1o4&gclid=CIr14PWg4NMCFaW37Qod2 ocAZQ

The car also didn't come with a service book, just the manual. Can you get a replacement from Citroen or is there a service record kept online anywhere?

AFAIK there isn't an online record of a vehicles service history (I stand to be corrected here) like there is with an MOT history which you get from numerous free apps or online from several websites. Did the dealer where you bought it from advertise it with some form of service history? If so, I'd be going back there to ask where it is and tbh giving them a quick call to ask it's whereabouts can't hurt. I've not heard of any car being sold without some form of service history and proof of it for a while.

IF the car was under a servicing plan then those entries would have been recorded, otherwise the only other record is going to be invoices from whichever dealer was involved.
