  • Which tyre size to fit 205 or 215

I'm looking at replacing the tyres on my ds3 which has 17" alloy wheels, standard is 205/45/17 but can I fit 215/45/17 tyres as they are cheaper and also would give a bigger foot print on the road.

Obviously if this effects the handling in a negative way then I wouldn't do it.

    Thanks mike

Either will fit if the car is not lowered, 215s will give more traction, but fuel consumption will likely increase slightly with the added friction with the road. On full lock the tyres may touch the arches, not too sure but I know some people do use 215s.

Thanks for the reply, I see your from my neck of the woods.

It's on standard suspension so want to confirm it doesn't hit the arches on full lock before I commit to them

Not that many south centrals here relative to further north, they must be more sociable people up there

I definitely can think of at least one guy using 215s on the front, think he uses 205s on the rear still for less drag.

Easy way to check would be stick your wheels on full lock on the roadside/driveway/car park and have a look with a tape measure (and torch if required for the inside edge). If there's at least 5mm space each side you'll manage, if there's 10mm+, then you can be certain they'll fit

Thanks for that hopefully some one who is running 215 tyres will let me know for sure. That's a shame there are not many members on here down this way, I'm actually picking up the car on Saturday can't wait now
