If the pads are really knackered through excessive breaking then it's not necessarilly an untruth but I'd ask to see the rod after it's been replaced as typically you wouldn't expect to see that needing to be replaced for a very long time.

Incidentally the pads on my almost 2 ton SRT8 were still good at 26,000 miles/3 years!

I've not had to change pads on any car I've owned in the last 10 years and I drive pretty hard.
