Except they're not.

Although cornflakes of different brands may be made at the same factory they are made with different quality materials or extra processes used to create different finishes. It's an old myth, the notion that a box of Tesco Value cornflakes are exactly the same as Kellogs and that the extra money is purely on brand name (some of it is), the taste alone should indicate they're not exactly the same.

Same can go with anything else that's made.

Fair enough Briggsy and please don't take offence by this, but I trust Biggys opinion, as he is a valued knowledgeable man in the trade and long time member of this forum, so I trust him and he hasn't steered me or others wrong so far. If it blows up in my face, then so be it, but for now, I'm a happy man

Not at all, the essentials parts might be sufficient and never cause you any problems, I was merely pointing out that the understanding that different brands made at the same factory is a myth and that they could be different. Sometimes they're not though

Only time will tell. Fingers crossed and I can feel the purists shuddering at the fact I've not had the "Originals"

Hahaha very true Jez, but my nearest Total garage is miles away, so will stick with other premium suppliers closer to me.

The car components industry is very complicated, particularly when it comes to the aftermarket. Identical components will be sold under several different brand names*, on the other hand a totally different product which matches or even exceeds the the performance of the OE part may be offered - it usually comes down to whether or not it's worth tooling up for a particular reference. The trick lies in knowing who supplied OE & who they are selling to on the aftermarket!

There are inferior, even counterfeit, parts on the market. I'd be happy with any parts supplied under the Citroen Essentials scheme as, even though they may not be manufactured by the OE supplier they will, I'm sure, have been subjected to the same supplier quality checks as OE - after all, Citroen's reputation's at stake if they supply sub-standard components.

*even to the extent of deadly rivals supplying one another!
